Vane Shear Apparatus is used for conducting "Vane Shear Tests" which are ideal in situation where obtaining the ideal specimens is difficult or where there is a chance that intrusion from a sampling tube might result in extreme level of disturbance. This apparatus has a special motor whose height is adjustable. For this feature, a lead screw is provided which is rotated via drive wheel, allowing the vane to be moved down in the specimen. An electric motor is used to rotate the vane; the upper end of calibrated torsion spring is turned for giving a rotation of 0.1/sec. The hollow upper shaft is used to attach the vane shaft to a resettable pointers which is used for indicating the torque angle (in degrees) on a dial. Torque is calculated by multiplying the dial reading and spring factor.
