This apparatus is used for calculating the swelling pressure which is created by the soil specimens, especially molded for specific densities at pre-determined moisture contents, upon soaking in water. In the Swell Test Apparatus, the load is applied for restraining the swelling and this load is transferred on to a load measuring proving ring. For this, a load transfer bar and a perforated swell plate is used. The load frame is hand operated and it is used for attaching the proving ring with the lead screws. This apparatus also has a soaking tank which is used to saturate the specimen. It also has a mold base with radial grooves and channels with connecting holes.
